Finally got my workbench organized after that trip to the hardware store in Akron

Was at the local Ace last week picking up a new mallet and ended up talking to the owner for 20 minutes about pegboard layouts. He showed me this simple trick with pegboard hooks and zip ties that saves so much space. Has anyone else found a random employee tip that completely changed your garage setup?

Honestly that trick with zip ties on pegboard hooks is genius. I never would have thought to use them to lock tools in place. But the real hidden tip nobody talks about is using those magnetic trays from Harbor Freight to hold screws and bits while you're actually working. Everybody focuses on organizing the wall but forgets about the chaos that happens on the benchtop mid-project. I stuck a couple of those trays right above my main work area and it stopped me from losing those tiny hex keys every time I set one down. That and a simple nail apron changed my whole workflow more than any pegboard arrangement ever did.

You ever notice how the best workshop hacks come from stuff that wasn't meant for the job in the first place? I snagged one of those magnetic parts bowls from an old speaker magnet and glued it to a scrap board, works just as good for holding screws without sliding around. The nail apron tip is real though, I used to waste so much time walking back and forth for stuff I could've just kept on me.
