Wasted $300 on acoustic foam from Amazon

Thought I was smart buying cheap foam panels for my backyard studio. Big mistake. The stuff turned yellow after 2 months and didn't do anything for low end. Anyone else get burned by those budget foam packs?

Peel that stuff off and return it if you can, or just toss it because it's basically useless once it starts breaking down. I went through the same thing with those Amazon foam packs, turns out you need thick rockwool panels or at least some proper bass traps to actually fix room issues. The cheap foam only kills high end reflections and leaves your low end all muddy and boomy. Next time look for OC703 or even DIY with rockwool from a hardware store, it costs less for way better results.

Man that's exactly what I went through last year with those cheap foam panels I got off Amazon. I had them up in my home studio for like 6 months before I realized my low end was just a mess no matter how much I tweaked my monitors. The foam started crumbling after a few months too, little orange pieces everywhere that static clung to everything. I switched to OC703 panels I built myself with some wood frames and burlap from a craft store, and the difference was night and day, especially with bass traps in the corners. It cost me like 60 bucks total for my whole room and actually made my mixes translate better to my car speakers and headphones.

Gotta slightly push back on that 60 bucks number, not trying to be picky but wood and burlap add up quick depending on your lumber prices. I built OC703 panels last year and the wood frame alone cost me like 30 bucks for just four panels from the local hardware store. The OC703 itself was another 40 for a four pack. Still way cheaper than foam and way more effective for sure, just dont want anyone to get sticker shock when they price it out. The bass traps in the corners are the real hero here anyway, those cheap Amazon panels never touch low end at all.
