Question about a $50 logo design from Fiverr that bombed hard

I spent $50 on a logo from some guy on Fiverr last month for my side gig. He promised unlimited tweaks and a unique design, but what I got was a clip art mess that looked exactly like three other logos I found on Google. The fonts were all stretched weird and the colors bled together when I printed it on a shirt. I tried getting revisions but he stopped replying after two messages. Total waste of money and time, I ended up designing something myself in Canva in an hour. Has anyone else had a cheap online logo go sideways like that? What do you look for to avoid these rip off artists?

Had the exact same thing happen to me last year with a $40 logo gig. The guy literally traced a Starbucks cup and called it a day (not kidding, it had the siren's face on my soap business logo). What finally worked was paying a little more for someone with actual reviews showing real logos, not just mockups. I look for designers who post their process videos or show a portfolio with actual brand work, not just trendy templates. Also, requesting a vector file upfront saved me on my next try, because then you can fix colors and fonts yourself if needed. Canva definitely saved my butt too while I was testing people out.

$50 gets you the Fiverr special where they pull clip art off a free site and call it a day. At least your Canva attempt probably didn't come out looking like a bootleg energy drink.
