Rant: People who don't let butter come to room temp before creaming

I was at a bake-off last Saturday in Austin and watched this girl dump cold butter straight from the fridge into her mixer. She kept wondering why her cookies came out flat and greasy. It takes maybe an hour to soften butter properly on the counter, 30 minutes if you cut it into cubes. She had 4 batches fail before someone told her. How do yall handle customers or friends who rush this step?

Four batches! I don't know how she didn't snap after the second one (I would've lost my mind honestly). @lee_barnes70 I've done the frantic cube-cutting dance too, where you're staring at your butter like it personally offended you. It's just wild to me that someone would rather keep failing than wait an hour. I mean, you're already standing there baking, what's one more hour? Flat, greasy cookies are a pretty clear sign the universe is yelling at you. I bet she'll never make that mistake again after that bake-off.

Room temp butter is non negotiable, I learned that the hard way when my first attempt at chocolate chip cookies turned into frisbees. Now I'm the guy frantically cutting butter into tiny cubes because I forgot to take it out of the fridge again. We all get impatient sometimes, but flat cookies are a pretty good teacher.
