I finally snapped a chain on a group ride last Sunday

Was out with 12 riders on the usual 40 mile loop through the hills. Everything felt fine until that one hard shift going up a steep pitch. Chain snapped right at the quick link. Took out my rear derailleur too. Had to call my wife to come pick me up in her SUV. Felt like an idiot standing there with a twisted mess of metal. Got home and realized my quick link had 3,000 miles on it. Should have replaced it way sooner. Anyone else forget to swap those out until it's too late?

honestly i dont get why people treat a snapped chain like its the end of the world. yeah it sucks but you just call a ride and swap it out, its not that deep. quick links are cheap and easy to replace, just grab a new one every few months if you ride a lot. i guess i just dont see the big deal, chains break sometimes and you move on.

@ben_shah93 missed that 3000-mile quick links can weld themselves to the chain in heat.
