Hit 1000 player count on my homemade RPG at a con in Columbus
I brought a prototype fantasy game to Origins Game Fair last year, just hoping to run a few demos. By Saturday afternoon, I had logged 47 unique players across 8 sessions, and the total hit 1,024 by Sunday night. It shocked me because I only printed 50 character sheets and had to photocopy more at a FedEx ten blocks away. Has anyone else run a game that blew past their expectations like that?

That 50 character sheets thing really shows how unprepared you were for that kind of turnout, which is honestly the best kind of problem to have. The FedEx scramble adds a real layer of authenticity to the story, like you were genuinely just trying to keep up with the demand. Most designers would kill for that kind of spontaneous overflow, so it sounds like you built something that actually clicked with people.

Laughing at "best kind of problem" because yeah, running out of sheets mid-con and having to beg a FedEx guy to overnight 200 more at 10pm is a special kind of chaos. People acted like I planned this whole "limited edition" thing on purpose. Nah, I just suck at guessing numbers. My buddy still brings up how I was frantically calling print shops from a bathroom stall. It worked out, but I wouldn't call it a smooth operation. More like a controlled dumpster fire that happened to catch the right kind of attention.
