Ever notice how cutting corners never feels right in the end? Like when someone speeds through a red light, they saved time but risked everything. Or folks who fudge numbers on taxes, always looking over their shoulder. That hollow win you described is the same thing. Means the reward wasn't earned. So the victory turns sour real fast.
