Hot take: 3 years ago I bought a used copy of Arkham Horror 2nd ed and never looked back at modern stuff

Back in 2021 at a flea market in St. Louis, I snagged a beat-up Arkham Horror 2nd edition for 8 bucks. That thing has 200+ tiny cards and a rulebook that reads like a tax form but my group has had more laughs with it than any Kickstarter mini-fest we've tried since. Am I crazy for thinking older complex games beat the streamlined stuff we get now?

Tbh that's the whole thing right there - we get so caught up in what's "better" that we forget the real win is just everyone at the table having a good time. Whether it's a 200-card monster or a simple filler game, the laughs are what actually matter.

...and honestly, is it really a contest? Seems like every time a new game drops people act like it's a personal attack on their childhood. I've got a friend who swears by the old school complexity and another who won't touch anything with more than a single page rulebook, and they both have fun at the end of the day. Maybe we're all just overthinking how we get our game night fix.
