Why I stopped bringing my favorite game to game night
Had a guy at the Tabletop Tavern in Denver last Friday flip the board on Terraforming Mars because he was losing by 30 points. Made me realize my competitive collection stuff just doesn't fit the casual crowd I play with now.

Flipping a board over a board game sounds like a grown adult throwing a tantrum over nothing important.

Saw this psychology professor on YouTube say that board flipping is actually a form of "learned helplessness"... basically when people feel like theyre losing control they lash out in the most dramatic way possible. Like my buddy Tim used to do this with Monopoly when he was losing property to his girlfriend... just flip the whole board and storm off. It's not about the game itself, it's about the person not dealing with losing well at all.
