Old school welding hood finally bit the dust after 22 years

Had that old Jackson hood since my first job at the shipyard in Norfolk. Finally cracked right down the middle on a repair job near the burner. New auto-darkening one is nice but I still miss the simplicity of a fixed shade.

That delay you mentioned is real but the new sensors are way faster than the old ones. I've been running an auto darkening for five years now and my eyes actually feel less tired at the end of the day since I'm not flipping the hood up and down constantly. The tech has improved a ton since the early days.

I read that auto-darkening hoods actually have a slight delay that can fatigue your eyes over time.
