That 50th roof repair made me realize I'd been doing it wrong the whole time
I just hit 50 roof repairs for this year and was feeling pretty good about myself until I looked back at photos from the early ones. The color combos I was using for flashing and shingle blends were just awful. I had one job in Denver where the homeowner asked for a dark green patch on a tan roof and I thought it would look fine. It looked like a giant mold spot from the street. That 50th job made me go back and actually study what colors work together instead of just slapping on whatever matched the sample. Has anybody else had that moment where a number made you rethink your whole approach?

Man, that's like realizing you ate a whole pizza before you learned how to cook it.

Oh man, that pizza analogy is perfect honestly. I used to think roof colors were basically just about matching the shingle sample and calling it a day. But after seeing how bad some of my early combos turned out in different lighting and from different angles, I totally get why people say the colors have to work with the whole house. That 50th job really opened my eyes to how much the little details like flashing blends and contrast can make or break the whole look. I used to roll my eyes at homeowners asking about it but now I'm the one double checking everything.
