My entire collection of rare ferns got root rot after a single overcast week in Seattle
I was too stubborn to check the soil moisture because 'they like it damp', and now I'm staring at 17 dead plants. Anyone else ever lose a big chunk of their collection to one dumb mistake?

Oh man, that's heartbreaking! I've definitely been there with succulents, thinking they needed more water than they did. It's the worst feeling.

My jade plant actually died from underwatering. I left it alone for two months during a trip and it was just crispy sticks when I got back. Sometimes the problem is ignoring them too much. Those thick leaves hold water, but they do eventually run out. It's a tricky balance.
