Chat with a site foreman changed how I stack corners
He told me last week that I was taking too long because I was leveling every course instead of trusting my eye... said he's been setting corners by feel for 20 years. Now I'm trying it and my pace has picked up. Any bricklayers here still use a level every time?

20 years setting corners by feel and he hasn't had a wall come down? That's wild to me. I still use a level every three or four courses just to keep my head straight, even if I think I'm dead on. Does he ever have to redo a corner after the mortar sets or is he just that good?

Yeah but see, I'm the opposite on this one. If I don't level every few courses I end up chasing a lean all the way up the wall and it takes twice as long to fix. Maybe it's just how my brain works, I need that check or else I start second guessing myself. Plus on a big commercial job, that foreman isn't gonna be the one tearing it down when the inspector shows up with a level.
