Visited a job site in Nashville where the crew was buttering every brick face
Was down in Nashville last month checking out a new build and the crew there was spreading mortar on the entire face of every brick before laying it. Told the foreman that's a waste of time and material, but he swore it gave a stronger bond. I've laid over 200,000 bricks in 12 years and never once did that. Anyone else seen this method or is it just guys trying to look busy?

@diana_bell74 that shed likely cracked from improper mortar mix, not buttering.

Buddy of mine tried it once on a shed, ended up cracking a week later.
