Overheard a cashier say something about canned beans that stuck with me
I was at the grocery checkout yesterday and the cashier told the lady in front of me that she buys store brand beans instead of name brand and saves like $40 a month. I never really thought about it because I always grab whatever is on sale. But she said the texture is the same, just less salt sometimes. I tried it with my chili last night and honestly could not tell the difference. Anyone else stick with store brand on stuff like beans or tomatoes?

$40 a month on beans seems like an exaggeration honestly.

My buddy Mike buys the same organic black beans from Whole Foods every month and it costs him like $38 for a 12 pack. The real pattern I see is people just undervalue how much simple staples add up when you're not paying attention. $40 on beans sounds wild until you realize that's how much a bag of quality coffee or a few tubs of Greek yogurt costs these days. It's one of those things where the total feels big but the price per serving is actually pretty cheap, especially if they're using them as a main protein source.
