TIL that a big bag of dried beans is way cheaper than canned
Honestly, I used to grab canned beans every time for chili or soup because it was fast. That was until I saw a receipt from last month and I'd spent like $12 just on beans. Ngl, I got a 2 pound bag of dried black beans for $2.50 at the store yesterday. You just soak them overnight and then boil them for an hour, and you get way more food for your money. It's a bit more planning but the savings are real. Anyone have other cheap dried food swaps like this?

My mom always pushed for dried beans and I thought it was just old school. After doing the math on my own grocery bill, I had to admit she was right. The cost difference is actually crazy, and now I keep a few bags in the pantry.

Totally get that. My partner made the same switch last year and our food budget got way better. The texture is honestly better too once you get the hang of cooking them.

How much time do you actually save with canned beans though? I timed it once and the whole soak and cook thing is mostly just waiting around, you aren't standing over the pot. The money you save feels like getting paid for that wait. My pantry is just bags of beans and lentils now, it's kind of embarrassing but my wallet isn't complaining.
