Chose a hostel over a hotel in Barcelona and saved 40 euros a night
I was heading to Barcelona last month and had to pick between a cheap hotel near the tourist spots for 60 bucks a night or a hostel a bit further out for 20. I went with the hostel because I figured I could use that extra money for food and a couple of Sagrada Familia tickets. It had a shared kitchen and I met two other travelers who showed me this tiny tapas bar that locals go to instead of the overpriced places on Las Ramblas. The only downside was the bunk bed squeaked like crazy, but earplugs fixed that. Has anyone else tried hostels in big cities and found them worth the trade off?

Most things in life are just paying extra for comfort you don't really need.

But isn't comfort kinda the whole point of earning money though?
