Pro tip: I spent $75 on a portable luggage scale and it saved me a massive fee in Dublin.
I was packing for a week in Ireland and my bag felt heavy. The scale showed I was 4 kilos over the limit for my budget airline. I shifted some stuff to my carry-on right there in the hotel and avoided what would have been a $100 charge at the airport. What other small purchases have saved you guys big money on the road?

A universal power adapter with USB ports is a similar win. It seems like a small thing, but not having to buy a new charger or hunt for a converter in a foreign airport saves both cash and a huge headache. You can plug in your phone, laptop, and a camera all at once from one small brick. It pays for itself after one trip by just working everywhere.

Wait, you can plug a laptop into one of those things? @keithpalmer you just changed my whole travel game lol. I thought they were just for phones.

My last trip to London, I spent way too much on a single outlet converter at the airport.
