Used to book hostels on Hostelworld but now I just walk in and ask for a cash discount
I went to Prague last month and noticed Hostelworld was charging a 15% booking fee on top of the room rate. So I just walked into this place near Old Town and asked if they had a cheaper rate for cash walk-ins. The guy at the desk gave me a private room for what I'd pay for a dorm online. Has anyone else tried just showing up without booking ahead?

yeah I've been doing this more and more in eastern europe especially. the booking sites are getting ridiculous with their fees and sometimes they even block the hostel from offering you a better deal direct. walked into a place in Budapest at 11pm and got a dorm bed for like 6 euros when it was showing 12 on the app. the front desk said they keep a few beds unlisted specifically for walkins cause they hate the fees too. just gotta be flexible and not mind the risk of the place being full.
