Warning: Don't fall for that "free breakfast" hostel trick in Barcelona

Booked a place for €22 a night that promised a full breakfast, but it was just stale bread and instant coffee, ended up spending €8 each morning at a cafe. Anyone else get burned by hostel listing lies?

Just ask to see the breakfast first before you book" - yeah, because every hostel in Barcelona is going to let you tour the dining area before you hand over your card. You paid 22 euros a night in a major European city, what did you expect, a three course meal with mimosas? That rate barely covers the cost of a bed and a working lock on the door. The stale bread and instant coffee is basically a free bonus for beating the hostel's actual price by like 60 percent compared to anything decent nearby.

Yeah I got burned the same way in Rome once, just ask to see the breakfast first before you book.
