Checked my savings account this morning and saw a number I never thought I'd hit
I've been putting $75 from each paycheck into a separate account for about two years, just trying to build a small emergency fund. I logged in today and the total was exactly $4,000. It hit me that this is the first time I've ever had a full month's living costs covered if something goes wrong. I didn't even notice it adding up because I set it to move the money automatically. Has anyone else been surprised by a savings goal they reached without really trying?

Wow that is HUGE, congrats! I read this article once about how making savings automatic is the single best trick because it works on your brain's laziness. You just proved it totally right. Hitting a full month's expenses like that must feel so solid and safe.

Actually found automatic transfers made me ignore my money too much. Had to check each paycheck and move things around manually to really feel in control. Watching the numbers myself kept me more focused on cutting costs. The safety came from being hands on, not from setting and forgetting it.
