The time my freezer died and I saved $400 in groceries

I was in the middle of meal prepping for the week when I noticed my freezer in Chicago had been running warm. Lost about $50 worth of chicken and veggies before I caught it. Instead of tossing everything, I cooked what I could immediately and froze the cooked portions at my neighbor's place. That little save plus reorganizing my fridge to use stuff first meant I didn't have to hit the grocery store for a full restock. Has anyone else dealt with a sudden appliance failure and found a way to avoid waste?

Yeah my Chicago freezer did the same thing last summer, cooked everything up and froze at a buddy's apartment too.

Wait, did you check if the compressor was running but the fan was dead? I've seen that a bunch where the freezer sounds like it's working but it's not circulating air right. You might have saved your next batch of groceries with a cheap fix (like a $15 fan motor) instead of buying a new freezer.
