I finally stopped using a tape measure for rough cuts on site
For the first 8 years of landscaping, I'd always pull out a tape measure for every single paver cut or fence board, even on simple stuff. Kept second guessing myself and wasting time. About 3 months ago, a carpenter buddy in Portland showed me how he eyeballs things with a combination square and a sharp pencil mark. Now I only measure if it's a critical seam. Has anyone else found a simple tool or trick that cut a step out of their process in a big way?

Did you at least count to "about three" before you started cutting?

Amy's counting rule reminds me of when I tried to measure spaghetti by eyeballing it.
