I still see people using brick patterns that don't account for the mortar joint thickness

Was walking through a new subdivision near Austin last weekend and counted 3 houses where the brick patterns were off because they used a standard 7.5 inch brick but forgot to add the 3/8 inch mortar joint into their layout. My dad ran a masonry crew for 30 years and drilled this into me back when I was 16 stacking brick on job sites. Anyone else notice builders skipping this basic step?

Had a buddy building his own house outside Nashville last year who swore he knew what he was doing with the brickwork. Stacked the whole front elevation before realizing the pattern was off by almost a half inch every three rows. Ended up having to rip out two full days of work because the mortar lines looked like a drunk snake crawling up the wall. He still brings it up whenever someone mentions masonry.

Wait, did he really not catch it until after stacking the whole front elevation? That's the kind of thing you'd notice like three rows in, not three days later.
