Pro tip: That time a tile guy at Home Depot told me to stop using spacers on subway tile

I was grabbing grout at the Home Depot off I-35 in Austin and this old pro pulling pallets of thinset told me my wavy wall was from relying too much on those plastic spacers instead of actually looking at the lines, so now I lay three tiles and step back every time, anyone else ditch the spacers for a better finish?

Oh boy, that's like telling a carpenter to ditch his tape measure because he should just eyeball it. Spacers are a tool, not a crutch, but I guess you have to learn that the hard way one wavy wall at a time.

Ngl, I read a tile forum where a guy swore his best work came after tossing all the spacers in the trash.
