Warning: Spent 10 years gluing miter joints wrong before a cabinet maker showed me how

I was using way too much glue and clamping too tight, making weak joints every time. A guy named Pete watched me for 5 seconds and said "you're starving the joint" - been doing it right ever since. Anybody else find out they were doing a basic thing backwards for way too long?

Totally agree with you, @gavinwood. I did the exact same thing with my drill for years and wondered why my bits kept slipping. Took me way too long to figure out that "tight as you can" is not the same as "tight enough to work." For me it was cooking bacon in a cold pan my whole life before someone finally told me to start it in a cold pan. I felt like such a dummy. It's wild how the smallest little tip can save you so much frustration down the road.

Blew my mind when a buddy told me I was over tightening my drill chuck and stripping the bit. Been smooth sailing since I started just snugging it up.
