Wasted $150 on a fancy leveling system for tile jobs

Bought one of those spin-leveler kits from a big box store because I thought it would speed up my bathroom floor. First time using it, the plastic wedges snapped on three tiles in a row. Ended up pulling them all out and doing it the old way with spacers and a rubber mallet, which took maybe an extra 20 minutes. Has anyone else had bad luck with those twist systems or is it just me? I'm back to using my regular spacers now.

Man, I've seen this complaint a bunch but nobody talks about the real issue. Those twist levelers work way better on rectified porcelain tile than on cheap ceramic or stone. The problem isn't the system itself, it's that the wedges are designed for consistent thickness and hard surfaces. You hit a soft or uneven tile with those plastic pieces and they just snap like twigs. Did you check what kind of tile you were using before you started?

Hang on a sec, even rectified porcelain can have slight thickness variations from batch to batch. I've snapped wedges on brand new porcelain before, it's more about the cap design sometimes catching on the edge wrong than just the tile material.
