Hit 50 job applications in one week and got zero callbacks

Last month I decided to go hard on the job hunt and sent out 50 applications in 7 days. I used a spreadsheet, tracked everything, and thought volume was the key. Turns out all I got was a bunch of automated rejections and one response 3 weeks later asking me to reapply. Has anyone else seen better results from tailoring each application instead of blasting them out?

Have you tried just sending out fewer but way better applications? I did that whole numbers game too and it was a total waste of time. For my last job switch I only sent out maybe 15 applications over two weeks, but I spent like an hour on each one tweaking my resume and writing a real cover letter that mentioned something specific from the job posting. I got three interviews and two offers that way. It is honestly more about quality than quantity with most companies these days.

Did your friend actually track the time they spent per application? I had a buddy who did the whole "spray and pray" thing for months and got nowhere, then tried the quality route and landed something in like three weeks.
