Overheard my boss talking about firing someone with 10 years of tenure over a policy update
I was in the break room at the Home Depot on Tuesday and caught two regional managers talking about how they're planning to let go of a long time employee because they kept missing these new safety compliance steps we just rolled out. This guy's been with the company for over a decade and knows more about plumbing than half the new hires combined. But apparently corporate is pushing this hard and anyone who can't adapt gets cut, no exceptions. It made me realize that loyalty and experience don't mean crap if you stop keeping up with changes in your field. I've been coasting on my knowledge for years, but now I'm looking into certifications and online courses for the new systems coming down the pipe. Has anyone else seen long term coworkers get pushed out like this over policy or tech changes they couldn't keep up with?
