The week I got a raise and then had to train my replacement
Back in 2018, my boss at the Phoenix office called me in on a Tuesday to say I was getting a 15% raise for my project work. I was over the moon. Then on Friday, he introduced me to the new hire I was supposed to train for the next two weeks, because they were moving my role to a cheaper city. Has anyone else had a career high instantly soured like that?

Man, that is such a gut punch. Got a "promotion" to team lead once, only to find out my main job was to write guides so they could outsource the whole department. Felt like a total fool for being happy about it. Companies really know how to mix the good news with the awful news so you don't just quit on the spot. Makes you not want to trust any good news after that.

I had that happen at a factory job in Toledo. They made me a "process trainer" for six months before moving everything south. What saved me, @adams82, was quietly updating my resume with the new leadership title and using those guides as writing samples for my next job. It turned their plan into my step up.

My old boss did that exact thing to three people last year.
