I hit 10,000 covers in a 40-seat joint and nearly walked out

Worked a solo Saturday dinner shift at this tiny spot downtown, 40 seats max, no dishwasher. By 9pm I had rung up 96 covers myself, expo, fire, plate, run, bus, reset. The owner came back sipping wine while I was scrubbing pans and said 'great pace tonight.' I hit exactly 10,000 covers for the month after that shift and realized I was doing the work of three people for minimum plus tips. Management didn't care, they just saw the number and smiled. Anyone else ever crush a ridiculous milestone and feel completely burned out instead of proud?

Used to think grinding like that was normal but this changed my mind.

Yeah, "used to think grinding like that was normal" hits close to home. I once crashed after a 14 hour shift and my roommate found me asleep face-down on a slice of pizza. Took me a while to realize that wasn't exactly a healthy life choice, you know?
