Had been storing my beans in the cabinet above the stove for 5 years... what finally tipped me off was a barista in Seattle asking if I liked my coffee tasting like burnt toast.

Switched to a cool dark pantry last month and the difference in flavor was so big I actually had to re-learn how to brew, has anyone else made a storage mistake that took way too long to figure out?

Oh man, my buddy did the exact same thing with his spices. He had them right above the stove for like three years and wondered why everything tasted like stale cardboard.
