Choosing a background for a local bakery's menu board

I was designing a menu board for a new bakery in Seattle and got stuck between a soft sage green or a warm cream for the main background. I went with the cream because it made the photos of the pastries look more appetizing and the text easier to read from a distance. It worked out, but I'm second-guessing if the green would have given a more unique 'artisan' feel. Anyone have experience with color choices for food menus?

Disagree about the green feeling more artisan. Cream is a classic bakery color that makes food look real and cozy. You made the right call for readability.

I get what you mean about cream being a classic bakery color, but in my experience that specific green can feel more handcrafted and less like a chain. It gives off a small batch vibe. Cream is cozy for sure, but it can also look a bit plain or generic on a screen. The right green makes things pop without hurting readability, in my opinion.
