Vent: Brand color rules killed my portfolio piece

I spent 3 days on a fake redesign for a local diner in Austin, matched their menu's mustard yellow perfectly using HSL values. Client later said I had to use their actual brand blue from the 90s that looks like a bruise. Has anyone else had a project ruined because someone insisted on a terrible brand color?

Ugh, that bruise blue sounds brutal. Solidarity.

Wow that sucks big time. Was the client the diner owner or some random middle manager who doesn't get design? I gotta know did they actually see your mustard yellow mockup before they shut it down? Because if they saw it and liked it first then pulled the rug that's way worse than just getting told no upfront. I swear people think brand colors are sacred cows even when they look like garbage. Like congrats your bruise blue matches your 1998 website that hasn't been updated since dialup. Did you try to show them a side by side comparison of the two options to prove yours was better or did they just shut it down immediately?
