Had a weird chat with a harbor pilot about the 'bottom'

We were waiting on a job in Norfolk and he asked if I ever felt like I was just cleaning the ocean's basement. He said, 'You're the guy who mops up after the world's biggest, dumbest party.' Kinda changed how I see my daily grind. Anyone else get a weirdly perfect description of the job from a non-diver?

Reminds me of what grant_torres said, but my crew just calls it fishing for lost tools.

My old foreman in Seattle called us the ocean's janitors, which felt about right. He said we were picking up the trash the tide forgot to take out. That stuck with me more than any official job title ever did.
