Talked to an old Navy diver about decompression tables last week
Met a guy at a dive bar in Norfolk. He was 72 and still diving for a salvage outfit. He told me his first dives had no computers, just paper tables and a watch. Made me realize I trust my computer way too much. Has anyone else gone back to learning the old manual calculations?

Wait, but isn't that exactly when you need a computer the most? I mean, sure the old guys knew their tables cold but they also had a bunch of bent divers from getting it wrong. My Suunto has saved my butt more than once when I got distracted by a cool wreck and lost track of time. Computers recalculate every second based on your actual depth and time, not some guess about how long you sat at 60 feet.
