That salon in downtown Portland is mixing their own color on the down low

Honestly went in for a root touch up last week and the stylist admitted they're mixing generic bulk pigment with developer to save money. Tbh I spotted the bottle behind her station - no label, just a sharpie mark. She said it's how they keep prices under $80 but I'm seeing fading on my ends already after 4 washes. Has anyone else run into this at those fast paced chop shops?

Four washes and it's already fading? That's rough. Did she say what brand the generic pigment was or did she dodge that question? I've heard of some places cutting costs with stuff from beauty supply stores that isn't meant for professional use, but a sharpie-labeled mystery bottle is a whole other level of sketch.

Read somewhere that some of those generic pigments actually use industrial grade dyes meant for textiles, not skin. That would explain the fast fading and the sharpie labeling. If it's not formulated for human skin, it's basically a tattoo gamble. Hope she can get some sort of refund or at least a warning posted about the place.
