Tried a gloss and glaze on the same client and wow the difference was crazy

Last month I had a client with super dry color treated hair who was complaining about frizz. I did a gloss on half her head and a glaze on the other half just to see what happened, lol. The gloss side looked shiny at first but by day two it was already fading back to dull. The glaze side stayed smooth and glossy for almost two weeks straight, no lie. I used the same brand for both too, so it wasn't a product quality thing. The glaze just locked in the moisture way better and didn't wash out as fast. Has anyone else tested these side by side or am I just slow to figure this out?

Whoa, I gotta push back on this a bit. Glosses and glazes do different things, yeah, but in my experience a good gloss can last way longer than two days if you prep the hair right. I've had glosses hold up for a week or more on super damaged hair. Sounds like maybe that brand's gloss just wasn't formulated for color treated hair specifically. The glaze might have had more silicones or something that gave it that longer slip. Different tools for different jobs, but I wouldn't write off glosses just from one test.

Yeah, I feel you on that. I think the key is really in the prep work, like you said. I've had glosses last a solid week on my bleached ends just by making sure the hair was properly clarified first and then using a bonding treatment before the gloss. A lot of brands just skip that step and wonder why it doesn't stick. But honestly, I've also had glazes that were basically just thick conditioners with some color pigments, so they weren't really a true "glaze" either. It's all about checking the ingredients for something like a mild acid or a protein that actually seals the cuticle, not just coats it. Some glosses are more like a heavy-duty mask that leaves a film, while others are more like a light stain that fades quick. So I wouldn't write off the whole category either, just gotta find one that's made for color treated hair and has some staying power.
