Tried two-factor auth via SMS vs an authenticator app and one got my account compromised in 48 hours

Switched from Authy to SMS codes for a week and ended up with someone logging into my email from Nigeria despite never losing my phone, has anyone else had SMS intercept attacks happen to them?

Man that SMS stuff is scary. I actually had a buddy of mine, he's a mechanic, and he kept getting these weird texts that looked like they were from his bank. He ignored them then a month later I'm helping him move a couch and he finds out someone tried to buy a plane ticket to Ghana with his PayPal. The SIM swap thing is real. He never lost his phone either, they just called his carrier and tricked them into porting his number. Took him like three weeks to get his number back from the scammer. That Nigerian login you saw was probably them testing the waters before they did something bigger.
