Serious question, did you know most dark modes aren't actually pure black?

I was reading a UX study from Nielsen Norman Group last week and they said something like 85% of popular apps use dark gray backgrounds, not true black. I always just assumed pure black was the standard, but it can cause eye strain and weird visual effects. Has anyone else switched from #000000 to a dark gray and noticed a real difference in how it feels?

Nielsen Norman Group just ruined my whole dark mode aesthetic.

Tbh I just tweaked the contrast on my monitor a bit. Found a middle ground that's easier on the eyes but still looks dark.
