That dev who said pure black backgrounds hurt my eyes was actually right

I pushed back hard when a UX designer in Seattle told me to swap #000000 for a dark gray, but after three weeks of testing with actual users, the eye strain complaints dropped by 40%. Has anyone else changed their mind about pure black after seeing real data?

Yeah that "pure black hurts my eyes" thing sounded like nonsense to me at first too. But I switched my night mode to dark gray and now I get why they said it.

Oh man, I felt the exact SAME way. I rolled my eyes at first thinking it was just people being picky with their screen settings. But then I tried dark gray and realized pure black actually made things look washed out and weird on my phone. So yeah, total game changer, I get it now.
