Visited a friend's place in Austin and their bathroom tile pattern blew my mind

They used these small hexagonal tiles in a gradient from dark gray to white across the whole floor. It wasn't just a straight line, the colors swirled around the drain like a little vortex. My friend said the installer charged an extra $800 just for the custom layout labor. Has anyone tried a complex tile pattern like that, and was it worth the extra cost?

Wow, that vortex idea sounds insane! @pipergonzalez is right about herringbone costing a lot too, but those wild custom jobs are a whole other level of pricey. I'd love to see a photo of that floor.

Saw a herringbone pattern that cost a fortune but looked amazing.

Oh man, I feel that pain (and the beauty). We had clients who did a herringbone in their entryway and it was absolutely stunning but man, that layout wastes a ton of material. All those extra cuts and the waste factor really adds up quick. I always admire the look but my wallet weeps for their wallet.
