A junior dev told me my design system was too rigid and I got defensive at first

I was showing a new team member how I organize my component library in Figma and he said it feels like the rules are more important than the outcome. He pointed out how I had 3 different button states but no room for a toast notification that actually needed a different color. Has anyone else had to loosen up their system after feedback from someone less experienced?

Tell the kid to go build his own system then.

Used to be all about that "kids these days need to earn it" mindset myself honestly. Watched my nephew spend six months saving his cash from a part time gig, build this absolutely janky budget PC with a used GPU that barely fits in the case. Thing crashed every other day but that kid learned more about troubleshooting than I ever did from just clicking "buy now" on a prebuilt. Changed my whole take on it seeing him figure out driver conflicts and thermal paste application on his own.
