Had a senior designer tell me my layers were a disaster and I fought back at first

That feedback about using nested auto layout with components completely changed how I work. I went from having 50+ loose layers on every page to about 10 clean components. The senior guy also showed me how he uses variants for button states instead of separate frames and it cut my mockup time in half. I still sometimes miss the old messy way because it felt more creative but I cannot argue with the results. Does anyone else find it hard to let go of a habits even when a pro tells you they are wrong?

50 layers down to 10? That's insane lol. I legit had the same reaction when a senior showed me how to use nested auto layout on a big dashboard project and I was like nah this is overkill but then I saw the file size and my mind was blown. The variant thing you mentioned is a game changer too, I spent weeks building out separate button frames for every state and now I just switch between them in one component. It's wild how stubborn we can be about our messy workflows even when the proof is right there. The creative freedom argument is real though, I still catch myself wanting to freehand everything sometimes even though I know the structured way saves me from fixing broken layouts later.

Nested auto layout's great but it doesn't always cut file size that much.
