Can we talk about cheap monitor arms from that one big online store?
My buddy in Chicago had his $40 arm fail after six months, dropping his main screen onto his keyboard and cracking the corner, so what's a solid budget brand that won't do that?

Honestly, the real cost is the hidden one, like your buddy's cracked screen. A cheap arm failing can wreck gear worth way more than you saved. That's why I'd rather buy a used, known-good brand than a new no-name one.

Yeah that's a really good point about hidden costs. Used to think getting the cheapest option was smart, but seeing a friend's monitor hit the floor changes your whole view on it. Now the math feels totally different when you factor in what it's holding up. That risk just isn't worth the fifty bucks saved.

My old North Bayou arm from that same store has held a 27-inch screen for three years now... no issues at all. Sometimes you just get a bad unit, but the basic design on a lot of those is fine. I wouldn't write off the whole category based on one failure.
