I finally had to pick between a beach hostel and a mountain cabin for 3 weeks of work

Yeah totally! The beach hostel is such a better call for that long of a stretch. I've done both and the mountain cabin gets real old real fast when you're actually trying to get work done. The quiet is nice for like the first two days but then it just feels heavy and you start going a little stir crazy. Plus the beach has that built in social scene if you want it but you can also just put in headphones and zone out. Jumping in the ocean at lunch is honestly a game changer for beating the afternoon slump too. And with three weeks you'll definitely hit some bad weather in the mountains that'll just trap you inside with nothing to do.

Beach hostel all the way, no question. Working from a mountain cabin sounds romantic but in reality its cold, quiet, and you'll be stuck inside if the weather turns. The beach has constant energy, you can work in a hammock or at a picnic table, and the salt air is way better for your brain than pine trees. Plus you can jump in the water on breaks which is amazing for resetting your head during a long work day. Mountain cabins are great for a weekend but three weeks is way too long to be that isolated.
