Woke up in a Chiang Mai hostel with my laptop bag empty and a locked door I couldn't open

I was in Thailand last Tuesday when someone swiped my work laptop and backup drive from the common area while I grabbed coffee, and I had to scramble to borrow an old Chromebook from the front desk and reset all my passwords before a client deadline hit that afternoon. Has anyone else dealt with a major theft while working remote?

Can't believe they locked you in, that's some next level messed up.

The security guard said "she forgot" to check the back room before locking up. Three full hours she was in there with no phone and no way out. I'd have been screaming my head off the second I heard that door click shut. What gets me is nobody did a headcount before locking up for the night. Just straight up left a person trapped in a dark storage closet while everyone went home. Police reports say she was banging on the walls but the building's concrete construction made it impossible to hear.
