A senior drafter told me my lineweights were all wrong back in 2012

He said I was using the same thickness for everything and my drawings looked flat. Changed to a 0.18mm for details and 0.35mm for outlines and suddenly my plans actually read right. Anyone else have an old pro point out something you thought was fine?

You ever have a painter friend tell you your brush strokes looked like garbage? My buddy Mike used to sketch cityscapes with a single pen weight and thought it was fine. An old architect handed him a set of rotring pens and showed him how to do thick for shadows and thin for glass. He said it was like his drawings went from flat to 3D overnight.

Funny how those little tweaks change everything... I had a similar thing with my old shop teacher back in high school. He told me my drawings were messy because I didn't use a ruler for every single straight line, and I thought I was being artistic or whatever. Finally took his advice and bought a cheap T-square, and it completely changed how my stuff looked. Sometimes you just need one person to point out the obvious thing you're missing. It's crazy how long you can go thinking you're doing fine when really you're just winging it.
