Added a swing valve to my 10-inch discharge line last month

Took maybe 3 hours to weld on and the difference in backflow at shutdown was night and day. Used to get about 5 feet of slurry dumping back into the pit every time I killed the pump. Now it's maybe a few inches. Anyone else running swing valves on their bigger lines or sticking with check valves?

Huh, I've had the exact opposite luck with swing valves on big lines... Tried one on my 8-inch discharge a few years back and the flapper kept sticking halfway open on startup, killed my flow rate bad. Went back to a simple check valve and it's been bulletproof ever since...

That "sticking halfway open" thing reminds me of a time I had a gate valve lock up so bad we had to torch it off.
