Been doing drywall for 12 years and finally got told I'm doing it all wrong by a 25 year old kid last Tuesday
I was working on a house in Phoenix, Arizona last week and this young guy walks up and says my taping technique is outdated. He showed me how he does it with one of those automatic taper tools and I gotta admit it looked way smoother. Then last month I tried that plus a bazooka on a big ceiling job and it saved me like 3 hours. But 3 years ago I was still using a 6 inch knife and hand taping everything like the old timers taught me. Makes me wonder how much more I could have saved my back all these years if I switched sooner. Anyone else have a young guy show you a better way to do something you've been doing forever?

That automatic taper sounds like it might actually be worth the money, but how long did it take you to get the hang of it without making a mess? I tried borrowing a buddy's once and spent the first hour cleaning mud off my boots and the floor. Worth the learning curve in your experience?

You ever try using one of those things hungover, @james_butler? I did and ended up with mud on the ceiling somehow. Took me maybe three jobs before I stopped looking like I lost a fight with a wet floor.
